What a Humble Giant!

I have no pictures of Dr. Dan Fountain that will match the one I have in my mind. While serving with Medical Ambassadors in Kenya, I often retold Dan's story of repeat intestinal obstruction by a completely preventable problem. I often passed out copies of "Let's Build Our Lives" that Dan and his daughter Katherine wrote together. I would often try to encourage other people, by talking about what God had done through Dan. When I first met him in person,it was at a Christian Medical and Dental Association conference for missionary medical people at Brackenhurst, Kenya. I was blown away by the special interest than Dan was willing to give me, a relative newcomer to missions. Dan so clearly saw the limitations of doing missions in the traditional way. But he never made disparaging remarks. Instead, he offered positive suggestion, based on the good he saw in my ideas. Dan showed me how true wisdom should be combined with humility. Since then I have worked with Dan in selecting topics for the Global Missions Health Conference. Dan was so good at selecting important issues that needed to presented in interesting ways. I wonder about the welcome that Dr. Dan Fountain received when he arrived in heaven. I can only imagine heaven's version of a ticker tape parade. But it is hard for me to feel the same joy when I am still here on earth missing his gentle wisdom, and his keen insight. What a humble giant! John Payne MD, President, Medical Ambassadors, Intl.
